The Best DC Area Thrift Stores

Last month I drove to DC to meet up with two lovely ladies, Immy of @sustainably_vegan and Shelbi of @shelbizleeee who were both in town. Since thrifting is my favorite activity, I decided to take them to my favorite DC thrift stores!

If you are not family with Immy or Shelbi here’s a little introduction!

Immy runs the Instagram and Youtube channel Sustainable Vegan that focuses on low impact living along with veganism!

Shelbi also runs Instagram and Youtube page Shelbizleee thats all about zero waste and sustainable living!

Be sure to check them out!

I had dozens of you message me asking what my favorite spots to check out in the DC area are so I’m finally taking time to write up a list of my mustgo-to spots!

Where we went

Since I can spend about two hours per store we only made it to two different thrift shops. Both stores are located closer to South East DC but are technically in Maryland!

We also happened to go on a Wednesday which is half-off day there. I’d typically recommend getting to stores early when they have half-off days since they get super packed!

Village Thrift Stores

4960 Annapolis Rd Bladensburg, MD 20710

Salvation Army Family Thrift Store

3304 Kenilworth Ave Hyattsville, MD 20181

I’d recommend hitting up Village Thrift first since I tend to find more at that spot!

Immy was awesome and filmed a video of our thrifting adventure and she even shared all the items she ended up finding!

Other good DC thrift stores

All of these are not technically in DC, but all are surrounding the DC beltway and I have grouped them together by location!

College Park Area

Value Village

2277 University Blvd E, Chillum, MD 20782

This particular thrift store is one of my favorite spots and one I do not get to visit enough since moving to Baltimore!

Salvation Army Family Thrift Store

7505 New Hampshire Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912

*If you are traveling and are looking for thrift stores in that area make sure when you see Salvation Army pop up in your GPS that it says “family thrift store”. Otherwise it’ll take you to the local community outreach spot and not a thrift store.

Unique Thrift Stores

10141 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20903

Rockville Area

Unique Thrift Stores

12211 Veirs Mill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20906

Goodwill

4816 Boiling Brook Pkwy, Rockville, MD 20852

Camp Springs

Village Thrift Stores

6307 Allentown Rd Temple Hills, MD 20748

Back in the day when I still lived in SOMD I went to this thrift store AT LEAST once a week. I try to make a trip once a month but that is just not enough, this might be my #1 favorite thrift store in the whole area.

Goodwill

9001 Woody Terr Clinton, MD 20735

Welp these are all my secret thrift spots for the DC area. Please let me know if I missed any good spots so I can add them to the list!

Happy Thrifting!

pssst!

  1. Yay, these are my local thrift stores! People around here love the Value Village on Annapolis Rd., too. I never thought that thrift stores might save up the vintage for Halloween…great tips, Jess!
