compost cocktail: peach + rye

For this weeks #compostcocktail I decided to make a simple syrup using molasses. I’ve had the same jar forever, and really only use it for the occasional recipe. You can use the syrup in cocktails, lemonades, and teas (and many other things too I’m sure!) This is a two part recipe, one is for the molasses simple syrup and the other recipe is for the cocktail I made with It.

  • Molasses Maple Simple Syrup⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 1/2 cup molasses⠀
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup water

Add all ingredients to a sauce pan and heat on medium whisking occasionally until it has reduced by half. Store in a jar in the fridge and it should keep for a few months.

Rye & Jam Cocktail⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This cocktail recipe combines molasses and jam. My jam always goes bad so I thought why not toss it in a cocktail?

  • 1 tbsp jam (I used peach)
  • 1 tsp molasses simple syrup
  • 2 oz hot water
  • 1 oz rye whiskey @tbwc
  • 1 cup ice

Add all ingredients to shaker, shake well, and enjoy with a slice of lemon for some extra tartness!
